About Dental Bone Splitting Chisel & Mallet Set
The Dental Bone Splitting Chisel & Mallet Set is a manual instrument set for bone splitting in dental implant work. The chisels provide the cutting edges, and the bone mallet is the impact instrument used to drive them. The set brings the two together in a fixed assortment of nine instruments.
What the nine instruments are
- Straight chisels: 4, 5, 6 and 7 mm, one of each
- Curved chisels: 4, 5, 6 and 7 mm, one of each
- Bone mallet: 1
Four nominal widths in two forms give eight chisels. The mallet is the ninth instrument. There are no other widths in the set.
Width and form are separate choices
Each chisel is described by two things: its nominal width and whether it is straight or curved. A 5 mm straight chisel and a 5 mm curved chisel are two different instruments in the set, so the width alone does not identify which one you mean. Having both forms at every width is what the set offers over a single row of chisels.
Width is also only one dimension. Edge profile, blade thickness and overall length are separate attributes, and any markings along a chisel are not the same as its width. If you are matching a chisel you already use, compare its width and form first, then any other dimension that matters to you, ideally from a drawing or the instrument itself. Two chisels with the same nominal width are not automatically interchangeable.
Chisel set, bone expander or osteotome kit?
This set is defined by its eight edged chisels and a mallet. Kits sold as bone expander or osteotome kits can contain different working ends, such as screw-type expanders, so a similar name does not mean the same contents.
