About Castroviejo Needle Holders
The Castroviejo is a spring-handled needle holder with fine, narrow jaws, used where small needles and fine sutures need precise control, such as periodontal, implant and other dental microsurgery. You hold it like a pen and close it with light finger pressure; a catch on the handles keeps the jaws locked on the needle. Our listed version is 14 cm long with straight tungsten carbide (TC) jaws.
Why the jaw matters
The narrow tip lets you grip small needles close to the suture without crushing them. Tungsten carbide jaw faces are harder than plain stainless steel faces, which is why many clinicians choose them for instruments that grip needles all day. Check that the jaw width suits the needle sizes in your suture range.
Castroviejo or another needle holder?
For fine work, the Castroviejo gives more control than a ring-handled holder. For general closures with larger needles, a Mayo-Hegar needle holder or a palm-held Mathieu needle holder may suit better. The Castroviejo is also part of our four-piece dental microsurgery set.
Ordering
- Order a single holder or a set. Tell us how many you need and we confirm what the set contains in your quotation.
- If you need a curved jaw or a different length, say so and we confirm whether it can be supplied.
- Evaluation samples of 1–3 pieces per pattern are available before a larger order.
Cleaning and sterilization
Follow the processing instructions supplied with the instrument and your facility's validated protocol. Clean the fine jaws carefully and process the holder with the catch disengaged.
