About Metzenbaum Scissors — Straight and Curved

Metzenbaum scissors are soft-tissue scissors with long handles and comparatively short, slender blades with rounded tips. The long handles give reach, the short blades give control, and the rounded tips let you spread and separate tissue without piercing it. We offer them straight or curved, in lengths from 15 to 20 cm.

Straight or curved

Curved blades follow tissue contours and keep the tips visible while you cut, which is why many surgeons prefer them for dissection. Straight blades suit straight cuts and trimming. Straight and curved scissors are separate items, so list each one you need.

Choosing the length

Shorter lengths give close control; longer ones reach further into the site. If you are replacing a pair, measure its overall length and choose the nearest size.

Metzenbaum or iris scissors?

For very fine cuts in small spaces, a smaller iris scissor is usually the better tool. Metzenbaum scissors suit larger areas of soft tissue. Neither should be used to cut wire or heavy sutures.
