Replace One Pattern or Order a Seven-Piece Set

A single missing or worn instrument does not necessarily require another complete set. Use the individual Gracey range to identify the required pattern and configuration. Choose the seven-piece set when the figure list confirmed in your quotation matches your clinic, course or distributor assortment.

Each number pair identifies one double-ended instrument, so a seven-piece set is seven complete instruments, not fourteen loose pieces. The count alone does not show which pairs are included or whether any pair repeats. State the complete figure list, quantities and subtype you need, and list a cassette or pouch separately if required.

Check Mixed References Before Ordering Individuals

The individual range separates the conventional Gracey sequence and cross-pairs from other references needing identity confirmation. Do not treat every option grouped there as a verified Gracey solely because of its placement.

In particular, 204/204S-style labels belong to scaler-pattern terminology, not the conventional Gracey sequence. These entries remain available for exact-code enquiries, but their identity and configuration must be resolved before accepting them as a Gracey replacement. This caution applies to the individual range; the seven-piece set's figure list is confirmed in its own quotation.

Use Numbers to Identify Area-Specific Patterns

Gracey curettes are area-specific, with one cutting edge per working end, whereas universal curettes follow a different working-end design. Within the conventional Gracey grouping, anterior and premolar patterns differ from posterior patterns. As examples, 11/12 is associated with posterior mesial surfaces and 13/14 with posterior distal surfaces.

Use this distinction to check the instrument list selected by your clinical team. It is not a treatment sequence, and it does not describe the contents of any particular set.

A Number Does Not Specify the Whole Instrument

The same pattern number may appear with different working-end and handle configurations. Do not infer a mini blade, extended terminal shank, rigid design or colour code from the number alone. Confirm the actual reference offered.

When matching a replacement, compare blade dimensions and profile, terminal-shank geometry, overall length, handle and readable figure markings. For a school or distributor set, record any required handle consistency without overlooking the pattern-specific working ends.

Prepare a Clear Assortment Quote

State whether you need complete sets or individual instruments, then give quantities against each reference. For the seven-piece set, give the figure list, quantity of each pair and subtype you need, and check the list offered in the quotation before ordering. For a custom assortment, list every pattern and quantity, any cassette or pouch, marking and destination.

Retain the accepted instrument list for receiving and replacement checks. Inspection, sharpening and reprocessing follow the applicable instrument instructions and facility protocol; a generic pattern name does not establish one universal cycle.
